5 Weight Loss Hacks to Try in 2021
Are you wondering if there’s anything you can do to make losing weight easier? If so, you’re not alone and i’m here to help! Below you will find the top 5 weight loss hacks to help you lose weight in 2021.
1 – Calorie counting
It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. But quite honestly, figure out a way to cut out 500 calories from your daily eating. The easiest way to do this is to write down everything you eat and allocate a total calorie amount for each meal for 7 days in a row. Not only does this help bring awareness to what you’re eating all day but you’ll also be more likely to eat less because you probably won’t want to write it down and on top of that figure out how many calories it has. Do this everyday for one entire week (you want to include the weekend) and then have an average daily number. Based off of that number, figure out how you can eliminate or cut out 500 calories every single day. If you cut out 500 calories everyday in one week you would lose 1lb (approximately). Now imagine if you did that AND you worked out? You would probably lose a lot more. You’re probably thinking 1lb is nothing and are wanting bigger outcomes/ results but what you don’t realize is that depending on the foods you cut out you will more than likely lose a lot of water weight, de-bloat and decrease the amount of inflammation all over your body. #winning
2 – Try a 5 day detox
I am a big fan of a detox that doesn’t leave you feeling deprived. My favorite detox kit is the one by USANA Health Sciences called the 5 day RESET. The reason why I love this kit is because it includes low glycemic meal replacements, probiotics and high quality vitamins for 5 days. For many people that struggle with sugar cravings, bloating and digestive issues this kit may help. It is also a kit that I recommend to my coaching clients as a way to kickstart their weight loss journey for 2 reasons: (1) it helps them wipe the slate clean (2) it helps them establish healthy eating routines from the start. Remember, weight loss isn’t about deprivation or following ridiculous diets but rather about learning how, what to eat and when. It’s also about learning how to eat the right foods for optimal health. Because when you eat the right foods, the cravings will no longer occur because you will be fueling your body with nutrient dense food that your body is actually going to absorb.
3 – Intermittent fasting
You might laugh at my explanation of intermittent fasting and that’s okay. Quite honestly, if you would just stick to 3 meals a day, you would be performing some type of intermittent fasting. The problem with many people today is that they snack/ eat all day long OR they wait until the end of the day to eat when they are starving and end up eating way more than their body needs. Without getting too caught up in the details of intermittent fasting I’m going to share what has personally worked for me and for several of my clients. First, you can start by not eating past 7pm. Start with that and try it for 5 days to begin with. The next thing you can try is consuming 3 meals per day during an 8 hour period. If you want a simple introduction to intermittent fasting, I suggest you download a copy of the 10 day jumpstart to weight loss here. It integrates intermittent fasting and explains everything you need in more details.
4 – Slow down
When was the last time you actually sat at the dinner table to eat a meal without any distractions such as your cell phone, laptop, tablet, etc.? How often do you find yourself eating while standing, during meetings and constantly picking on food that is around your house without being hungry? Let this one be a reminder to not only slow down during the day but also while you chew your food. Part of the digestive process is breaking down your food so that the nutrients can be absorbed. How can you slow down? Here are a few ways – take 5 deep breaths, set up your table with your best dinnerware, give thanks, chew each bite 20 times.
5 – Drink more water and load up on fiber
I purposely grouped these two together because they kind of go hand in hand. Given that our body is made up of more than 60% water it makes sense to drink more of it! Regarding the fiber, most people don’t get nearly as much. Fiber is necessary for optimal digestion. Many of my clients that are wanting to lose weight also suffer from bloating, constipation and other digestive issues. Usually, it’s due to a lack of fiber in their diet and dehydration. Another reason why I’m a fan of the 5 day RESET kit – the meals are high in fiber and it also encourages you to drink more water by having you track it daily.
